Today, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) announced that Scranton Lackawanna Head Start received $8,777,315 in federal funds from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS). These funds are used for the continuation of comprehensive, high quality, early childhood education for children in Lackawanna County. “The Head Start programs help ensure children in disadvantaged families have access to quality learning experiences. By investing in them, we invest in the future of our community,” said Rep. Cartwright. “I am proud to support programs that provide children with the tools to reach their full potential.” “Scranton Lackawanna Human Development Agency would like to thank Congress and Congressman Cartwright for their support in helping provide educational and family support services to those who need it the most. Without this funding, over 1,200 pre-school-age children would not receive critically important early education,” said Jim Wansacz, Executive Director of the Scranton Lackawanna Human Development Agency (SLHDA). “This funding really has enabled us to make a difference by engaging families in their child’s education and personal development,” said Linda Prutisto, Director of the Early Learning Program at the SLHDA. Head Start programs provide children with education services focused on early learning, health and family well-being. These programs promote children’s growth and development and give parents an opportunity to become actively engaged in their child’s education. Head Start and Early Head Start have served over 30 million children, providing them with the skills they need to succeed in school and in their lives. |
