Today, U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded $18,355,214 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania via its School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. The program provides funds to State Educational Agencies (SEAs) that then award competitive sub grants to school districts that demonstrate the greatest need for the funds and the strongest commitment to provide adequate resources to substantially raise student achievement in their lowest-performing schools. “Education is the crown jewel of America's economic infrastructure and as the father of two children, I recognize the need to prioritize education,” said Cartwright. “This grant is an investment in our children – the future of our country. By turning around low-performing schools, we can ensure that our children are able to succeed and attain their highest potential regardless of socioeconomic circumstances.” |
