Cartwright Announces over $4 Million in HHS Funds for Luzerne County Head Start

Wilkes-Barre – Today, U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded a supplementary grant worth $4,448,807 to the Luzerne County Head Start, Inc. Luzerne County Head Start offers Pre-K, Early Head Start, and Head Start programs for children in Luzerne and Wyoming Counties. “This grant is an investment in our children – the future of our country; early childhood learning is vital to strengthening our economy and our country,” said Rep. Cartwright, a member of the Appropriations Committee. “I applaud Luzerne County Head Start on their continued award and their dedication to enhancing the quality of life for children and families in Northeastern Pennsylvania.” Head Start is a national program created in 1965 to address the educational and developmental needs of low-income, pre-school children. Head Start’s comprehensive service system provides social, nutritional, and educational services for thousands of children and their families across the United States. |
