Cartwright’s letter and a separate letter from Casey both highlight Amtrak’s estimated annual economic impact of $87 million. They also noted that the developers of Margaritaville Resort Village plan to donate land for an Amtrak stop.

The FRA is “taking a very thorough approach” to its funding decisions, Cartwright said. “I really wanted to show the widespread strength of our proposal right out of the gate, and we have that now in the coalition letter that we are releasing today.”

Mayor Bob Bennie, who lauded Cartwright for his work and support, said the project took on a new sense of urgency last month when officers discovered mold at their since-shuttered police station on River Street.

The Moosic Borough Police are really going to benefit from this new facility, especially after their original building was closed indefinitely due to mold.

“It’s going to give us a permanent home, a place that we can call home for hopefully many years to come and we won’t outgrow it in the near future,” said Moosic Police Chief, Rick Janesko.

“The people and businesses of Pittston are incredibly appreciative that our downtown revitalization project has been selected as one of Congressman Cartwright’s Community Project Funding designees,” Pittston Mayor Michael Lombardo said. “Businesses here see the economic value this new performing arts center will bring as it rounds out the long-time vision we’ve had for our downtown.”
